چکیده

The use of medicinal herbs to relieve and treat diseases is increasing because of their mild features and few side effects (Basgel and Erdemoglu, 2006). These plants are unlicensed and freely available, however, and there is no requirement to demonstrate efficacy, safety or quality (Ernst, 1998). Cassia angustifolia Vahl (Family: Caesalpinaceae), popularly known as senna, is a valuable plant drug in ayurvedic and modern system of medicine for the treatment of constipation (Atal et HPTLC DENSITOMETRIC QUANTIFICATION OF SENNOSIDES FROM Cassia angustifolia

Status of sennosides content in various Indian herbal formulations: Method standardization by HPTLC

Several poly-herbal formulations containing senna (Cassia angustifolia) leaves are available in the Indian market for the treatment of constipation. The purgative effect of senna is due to the presence of two unique hydroxy anthracene glycosides sennosides A and B. A HPTLC method for the quantitative analysis of sennosides A and B present in the formulation has been developed. Methanol extract ...

A Modified Method for Isolation of Rhein from Senna

A simple and efficient method for the isolation of rhein from Cassia angustifolia (senna) leaves is described in which the hydrolysis of the sennosides and extraction of the hydrolysis products (free anthraquinones) is carried out in one step. Further isolation of rhein is achieved from the anthraquinone mixture. This method reduces the number of steps required for isolation of rhein as compare...

Next Generation Sequencing and Transcriptome Analysis Predicts Biosynthetic Pathway of Sennosides from Senna (Cassia angustifolia Vahl.), a Non-Model Plant with Potent Laxative Properties

Senna (Cassia angustifolia Vahl.) is a world's natural laxative medicinal plant. Laxative properties are due to sennosides (anthraquinone glycosides) natural products. However, little genetic information is available for this species, especially concerning the biosynthetic pathways of sennosides. We present here the transcriptome sequencing of young and mature leaf tissue of Cassia angustifolia...

HPTLC-Densitometric Determination of Cetirizine and Montelukast Analysis in Combined Tablet Dosage Forms

A simple, accurate and rapid high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC)-densitometric method was developed for separation and determination of cetirizine (CET) as a long acting antihistamine and montelukast (MON) as an antileukotriene in pharmaceutical dosage forms. The compounds were separated on silica gel 60 F254 HPTLC plates using a mixture of ethyl acetate : methanol : ammonia solu...
